Transforming Pain into Presence
By Stephen Proskauer MD | April 2, 2008
In his book A New Earth, Eckhart Tolle describes how the act of bringing Presence, attentive awareness, to a painful situation instead of reacting aggressively or defensively to it starves the pain body (our tendency to indulge in painful emotions) and nourishes one’s capacity to remain present. The more we are identified with our pain, the more of our energy is bound up in it and the less energy we have available to maintain Presence. The choice to remain aware and nonreactive in a painful situation, as when meditating, could be said to reclaim the energy bound up in identification with pain and bring it back to its original home in our conscious awareness. We will be practicing this process of energy transformation in the upcoming workshop
We will be practicing this process of energy transformation in the upcoming workshop on 5/24/08, Creating a New Earth Now, using Eckhart Tolle’s approach. For details, see above or check the sidebar under Workshops.
