Impact of Parental Attitudes at Conception on Our Feelings about Sex
By Stephen Proskauer MD | September 9, 2009
Karmic Therapy focused on conception is often the quickest and easiest way to deal with sexual dysfunction and other difficulties with intimacy. Among the many hundreds of patients I have seen over three decades, I can’t recall a single instance where the patient could not recall anything about conception.
Rhonda, a woman in her late twenties, was frigid and physically unresponsive to men during intercourse. The lower half of her body would go rigid and feel numb. She also had a frustrated and demanding attitude toward men, feeling that she could never reach them. When she recalled her conception, she discovered that her mother also had become paralyzed and numb during intercourse; adult sex aroused in her mother a deeply buried memory of being molested at the age of twelve. Her father was sensitive to her mother’s withdrawal during sex but did not know the cause. He struggled to reach her and felt frustrated by her lack of physical and emotional responsiveness. It became clear that during her conception Rhonda had taken on both her mother’s frigidity and her father’s frustration at not being able to reach her mother. Rhonda’s sexual problems immediately diminished once she had released the charge on this conception episode. She had identified with and was living out in her present life the attitudes and feelings of both parents at conception.
