Prenatal Memory
By Stephen Proskauer MD | September 11, 2009
From conception onward, the embryo/fetus seems to absorb detailed information from its mother, including thoughts, spoken words, physical sensations, and emotions. Attitudes and feelings of others close to the mother may also be picked up and may make a negative impact, for instance, during verbal or physical conflicts or sexual intercourse. Intoxication with alcohol, marijuana or other drugs affects the unborn, directly through the action of the drug on the baby and indirectly through its effect on the mother’s experience. There is considerable evidence that everything the baby absorbs from its mother in the womb, psychologically as well as physically, has a profound effect on later psychological functioning.
