Low Self Esteem Originating in the Womb
By Stephen Proskauer MD | September 21, 2009
Chronic self-esteem problems and depression that is resistant to therapy frequently appear to be rooted in the prenatal period. The most common prenatal set-up for depression seems to be an unwanted pregnancy complicated by maternal loss and stress, producing maternal depression. An important turning point in Karmic Therapy comes with the recognition that the mother’s negative thoughts about the pregnancy do not mean a personal rejection, that any child in that mother’s womb at that time in her life would have been unwanted. This realization decisively undercuts and reverses the system of negative thoughts about the self which has been built up and reinforced from early childhood.
