Birth Memory as a Three Track Recording
By Stephen Proskauer MD | September 23, 2009
Birth is the major transition into life. All earlier and later transitions seem to be connected in some way with the birth experience. Birth recall seems to come from three sources: (1) the baby’s body sensations passing through the birth canal and emerging into the world outside; (2) the mother’s emotional and physical reactions to labor and delivery, both expressed and unexpressed; and (3) the mood, quality of touch, remarks, and unspoken attitudes of doctors and assistants attending the delivery.
