Past Lives and How They Affect Us Today
By Stephen Proskauer MD | October 23, 2009
The first thing that strikes us about the past life episodes relived in Karmic Therapy is how extremely traumatic they are. Apparently it takes severe emotional and physical scarring to leave a significant negative impression on another lifetime. Usually those patients who have suffered hurt in this lifetime will uncover much more extreme pain in related past life episodes. Sometimes it seems to be easier to deal with these more distant horrors before facing the comparatively milder but more immediate childhood wounds from the present life—sneaking up on childhood trauma from behind, so to speak.
For instance, Theresa, a woman who began therapy with no conscious memory of sexual abuse in her childhood, recalled and released the charge on a brutal rape from a previous lifetime. After that, Theresa spontaneously remembered her father (the rapist in the past life) seducing her into sex play when she was small. She was then able to begin releasing her lifelong distrust of men.
