Traumatic Residues from Different Realms
By Stephen Proskauer MD | October 27, 2009
Jim, a young man with lifelong acrophobia, lost his fear of heights after recalling a series of past life episodes in which he had died by falling from cliffs and mountain precipices. Thematic connections in his present life included a precipitous birth and a childhood experience of falling off a balcony.
As in Jim’s case, it is common for traumatic residues from different realms of experience to be linked together by points of thematic similarity. For example, an expectant mother on the delivery table during a severe contraction thinks “I can’t stand it anymore, it’s killing me.” These words are also linked to a death scene from another life in which she expired slowly from a painful abdominal wound. The feeling tone, the words, and the body sensations are identical at the junction point between the memories from the two realms.
