Karmic Dualities

By Stephen Proskauer MD | November 10, 2009

Fundamental karmic dualities recur in episodes from other lives: separation vs. union, scarcity vs. abundance, personal desire vs. service to others, love vs. fear, power vs. helplessness, persecutor vs. victim, to name some of the major themes. A series of past lives on a single theme may begin in an animal lifetime, a purely sensory experience of feeding, fighting, mating and dying. Then we may encounter a life as a cave dweller, with only the most primitive forms of thought and emotion accompanying physical sensations. In later stages of human development, more complex emotions and thoughts appear and every possible melodrama involving love, possession, and power can get played out. Weariness with the endless round of greed, anger and ignorance motivates the search for spiritual truth.
