Holding Sensations and Emotions in the Body
By Stephen Proskauer MD | December 28, 2009
There is a universal human tendency to tense up in fear and hold on tight when our experience becomes too scary or painful or intense, as if we were trying to guard ourselves by warding off with our bodies what seems unendurable. By doing this, we “freeze” the sensations, emotions, and the associated karmic pattern into a block consisting of localized physical pain and/or tension that remains with us indefinitely until we are ready to do the work of reliving the experience and releasing it.
