Lifelong Pain Held in a Tight Solar Plexus
By Stephen Proskauer MD | January 5, 2010
A middle-aged man who had been bullied by his older brothers in childhood recalled the formation of a block in his solar plexus while they were strangling him and smothering him with a pillow: “You’re hurting me! Get off me! Leave me alone! I can’t defend myself. I want someone to help me, but nobody comes. They are cutting off my air. I’m not strong enough to push them off. I feel myself shutting down. I have to close the pain off. I tighten my solar plexus and don’t let myself think about how much it hurts… I don’t want to feel this way anymore! I want to run from the pain…” As Gene said these words and expressed the fear and desperation he had felt at the hands of his brothers, lifelong tension in his solar plexus relaxed.
