Dissociation for Emotional Survival

Most of us who have developed intense spiritual interests have also had unusually severe emotional and/or physical traumas that have caused us to dissociate. Relying on dissociation for emotional survival creates unique spiritual opportunities and risks. We may heal our wounds sufficiently to function in the world, expand our awareness and help other people, but we can also get caught in using out of body experiences as a way to support the ego and make us feel special.
